Grade 7 Program

Grade 7 is the most important year for high school admissions. That is because it is the Grade 7 report cards and state test results that will determine students’ chances at getting into their dream program.

At the same time, Grade 7 is a year when many students experience the “sophomore slump”, struggling with organization, mindset and mood.

Our Grade 7 program helps students stay upbeat, motivated and focused by keeping their eyes on the prize about the amazing range of high schools available to them in New York City and beyond.

The Grade 7 High School Readiness Program introduces students to:

  • SHSAT schools

  • Screened high schools

  • Performing and Visual Arts high schools

  • Career/Technical Education schools

  • Urban Assembly schools

  • Charter high schools

  • Religious high schools including Catholic schools

  • Catholic and other religious high schools

  • Independent/private schools

  • Boarding schools

The High School Readiness program helps 7th graders to

  •  Visualize their future by learning about different professional fields

  •  Develop a plan for high school and beyond

  • Break long term goals into incremental “chunks”

  • Overcome the “seventh grade slump” by understanding the remarkable way their brain is developing at this age–and learn tricks for how to complete school work even when they don’t want to

  • Identify authentic interests and hobbies, even if they have never had the chance to try them out

  • Connect to low-cost or free-of-charge opportunities to develop interests and skills

  • Build a supportive team around them that includes positive friends, teachers, school administrators, family members and other mentors

  • Find high schools that match their unique learning style, goals and interests

  • Discover how to prepare for success in admission to their preferred schools

  • Access 7th grade test prep and arts-oriented programs as well as summer programs to maximize chances of success in high school admissions.
